Councilman Felipe Fuentes addressed the growing issue of water shortage that is not only affecting the city of Mission Hills but all of California.
On Tuesday, councilman Fuentes spoke to the Mission Hills council and concerned residents about the importance of conserving and capturing water during this drought. “ Times are still really tough for Los Angeles, but we are doing a lot better,” Fuentes said. Councilman Fuentes spoke of the storm water permit and the benefits that Los Angeles residents would receive. The storm water permit is a management system that cleans and purifies runoff water from the storm drains and can be used as reusable water. The storm drains must also be cleared out and free from trash and any other liter that may cause more contamination. “Its not about climate change, its about how much is it going to cost to make sure that I have reliable clean water,” said Fuentes. The main concern was to save water but also save resident’s money during this drought. In other business, the Mission Hills council went over the 2015 crime statistics for the Mission Hills area. Senior Lead Officer Phil Ruiz addressed the decline in crime around the Mission Hills area. “ Crime rate has gone down since last year during this time,” Officer Ruiz said. Mission Hills’ residents have contributed to the decline in crime around the area by reporting suspicious activity and tips. “More people in the community have been making citizen calls,” Officer Ruiz said, “ Which has contributed to proactive action in decreasing crime in the area.” The council also spoke of the task force volunteer group that would address the growing issue of local drag racing in the neighborhood. The task force will be working with the local Los Angeles Police Department’s Mission Division and residents. Officer Ruiz thanked local residents for their compliance and efforts in bettering the area of Mission Hills.
